About
What is Tune Dropper?
Tune Dropper is a music-recognition game built around short song clips. Choose a hit level, narrow the game by genre or era, select a clip length, and see who can name the tune.
Tune Dropper was created because a group of friends played something similar after a recent dinner party. The energy was amazing, there was singing, dancing. The game we used, unfortunately, was a little clunky, with scan codes and wonky tech. Tune Dropper is made to be simple and straightforward. Throw a dinner party this weekend and play!!
Tune Dropper does not host the music itself. Playback is provided through embedded YouTube videos. If you want to play the entire song, click on the YouTube logo on the bottom right of the video.
Tune Dropper’s catalog is built primarily from Billboard chart data, including the Hot 100, Billboard year-end singles lists, earlier Billboard retail-sales charts, and Billboard country charts. From 1960 forward, our core catalog includes the Top 25 songs for each year. Our Hit Level reflects chart performance: Top 5 means positions 1 - 5, Top 10 means positions 1 - 10, and All Songs includes the complete catalog. We continue to verify titles, artists, years, categories, and playable sources as the database grows.
Rules
How to Play
Party Play: For the room. | Solo Play: For you. Pick your game and turn it up.
Party Play
There really are no rules. Choose your songs, hit level, genres, eras, and clip length, then make the game your own.
Start the game and play the first clip.
Guess the title, artist, year, decade, or whatever your group wants to score.
Hit Reveal when everyone is ready to see the answer.
Solo Play
Choose one of four 10-song challenges:
Tune Dropper Challenge — a mix of everything.
Name That Tune — identify the song title.
Name That Artist — identify the performer.
Music Trivia — artist and song trivia.
You get 2 skips. A wrong answer locks that choice for 2 seconds, then you can try again. The clock keeps running until all 10 songs are completed.
Solo Results
Your results track your time and how many questions you answered correctly on the first try. As more games are played, Tune Dropper can also compare your performance with players who completed the same type of challenge.
Turn It Up
Tune Dropper is mobile first, so connect your device to a speaker system and play it loud.
Party Scoring
Party Play intentionally leaves scoring flexible. A simple option is one point for the title and one point for the artist, with optional bonus points for the year or decade.
